An innovative initiative: the cross-border partnership in caregiver training

With 70% financial support from the Regional Council, thanks to European funds, the students of four IFAS in the Occitanie region benefit each year from this enriching experience.

In April 2016, the Occitanie region, as part of the European Interreg V-A Poctefa1 2014-2020 programme, which «co-finances cross-border cooperation projects designed and managed by actors located on both sides of the Pyrenees and coastal areas2», presented a cross-border mobility scheme for pupils in level IV and V training. To respond to this call for projects, an inter-IFAS working group was created bringing together the institutes of the hospitals of Tarbes (65), Rodez (12), Lannemezan (65) and the IFAS of the French Red Cross (CRf) in Toulouse (31). Punctuated by numerous meetings, this collaboration will last nearly a year before the start of the first nursing assistant students' internship in June 2017.

This openness to Europe is also a means of boosting the image of caregiver training and increasing its visibility among its institutional partners.

The IFAS grouping now plans to develop specific recognition of skills acquired in mobility
